The American Lawyer named Simpson Thacher as the winner of the Antitrust Litigation Department of the Year in its 2014 “Litigation Department of the Year” issue. This is the first year The American Lawyer has recognized firms in this category. The publication noted the Firm “excels across the whole spectrum” of antitrust litigation, including class action defense, internal investigations and negotiations with regulators. Simpson Thacher was recognized for its work on a wide range of antitrust matters over the past two years, including its representation of Fidelity National Financial, Inc. in a dismissal of a putative class action that alleged the defendants violated RESPA by paying alleged kickbacks to title agents and other third parties in connection with the sale of title insurance. The American Lawyer also highlighted the Firm’s role as U.S. antitrust counsel to Virgin Atlantic in connection with its partial acquisition by Delta Air Lines. The publication noted that the Firm’s cases "usually involve high stakes and [have] the potential to set precedent."
