Simpson Thacher Wins Appeal of Verdict for Client Mohammad Al-Saleh in Iraqi War Defense Contracts Case

05.16.13

On May 15, a unanimous panel of the Florida 4th District Court of Appeal affirmed the Palm Beach County jury verdict secured by the Firm in July 2011 in favor of STB client Mohammad Al-Saleh -- the brother-in-law of the King of Jordan. STB had successfully argued to the jury that the defendants, Al-Saleh's former partners, cut him out of the profits from $2.7 billion in defense contracts to deliver fuel to U.S. troops in Iraq. In addition to affirming the unanimous jury verdict, the appellate court also granted Al-Saleh's cross-appeal for pre-judgment interest, which increases the original $28.8 million jury award to nearly $40 million. STB client Al-Saleh was represented by Barry Ostrager as lead trial and appellate counsel, Michael Kibler as second chair, and Jonathan Weiss.
