Simpson Thacher’s Private Equity and Insurance practices were recently recognized by Law360 as 2012 Practice Groups of the Year. Law360 selected winners, ranking the top five firms in each practice area, based on the number, significance, size and complexity of the deals or matters on which firms worked between November 1, 2011 and November 1, 2012.
The Firm’s Private Equity practice was acknowledged for its premier funds and transactional work for both large private equity firms and middle-market clients. In 2012, the Firm was counsel on some of the largest fundraisings and most complex private equity deals, including the representation of KKR and Alliance Boots GmbH in connection with the acquisition of a 45% equity stake in Alliance Boots by Walgreen Co., in a deal valued at approximately $6.7 billion, and the representation of Blackstone Group in the establishment of its seventh real estate fund, which raised approximately $13.3 billion of total commitments. Law360 remarks “Simpson Thacher has been at the forefront in terms of the sheer size of the deals and fundraisings it has handled, but it also offers expertise in far-ranging corners of the private equity world – garnering it the practice group of the year distinction for a second year in a row.” Tom Bell and Gary Horowitz were quoted throughout the profile.
