Simpson Thacher Elects Four New Partners

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP announced yesterday that it has elected four attorneys as members of the Firm effective January 1, 2013.  The new partners are:

Grenfel S. Calheiros (Corporate – São Paulo) – Mr. Calheiros concentrates his practice on corporate finance and merger and acquisition transactions, with a primary focus on Latin America and particularly Brazil. He has represented clients on a broad range of transactions throughout the region, including leading companies, private equity sponsors and investment banks in cross-border securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and other complex corporate matters. Mr. Calheiros received his law degree in 2000 from Universidade de São Paulo and his LL.M. in 2003 from the University of Chicago Law School.  He is fluent in Portuguese. Mr. Calheiros joined the Firm in 2004.

Gareth Earl (Corporate – London) – Mr. Earl focuses his practice on the establishment and operation of a wide range of private investment funds, including private equity, infrastructure, real estate and debt funds. Before joining the Firm in 2010, he served as fund counsel at Doughty Hanson & Co. and prior to that as a senior associate at Clifford Chance LLP.  Mr. Earl graduated from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge in 2000 with a BA (hons) in Law. He was awarded a Diploma in Legal Practice with distinction from Nottingham Law School in 2001.

Anthony D. King (Corporate/Real Estate – New York/Hong Kong) – Mr. King represents corporations and private equity firms in a wide range of transactions including corporate and commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures. He also advises clients on corporate and securities laws and corporate governance matters. He is currently based in the New York office and will be relocating to the Firm’s Hong Kong office. Mr. King received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2003 and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Pomona College in 1997. Mr. King joined the Firm in 2003.

David A. Shevlin (Exempt Organizations – New York) – Mr. Shevlin advises a variety of international and domestic exempt organizations, including all forms of private foundations and public charities.  He also advises donors to and the governing bodies of exempt organizations.  He provides counsel to a number of endowed universities, foundations, hospitals and cultural institutions with respect to the investment of their endowments. Mr. Shevlin earned his J.D., magna cum laude, at New York University in 1992, where he was named a member of Order of the Coif, and he earned his B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1989, where he was named a Presidential Scholar. Mr. Shevlin was a Senior Counsel at the Firm prior to his election as partner.  He joined Simpson Thacher in 1992.
