From July 16-19, 2012, Simpson Thacher hosted eight tenth-grade interns as part of the Legal Outreach program. Legal Outreach is a non-profit organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal and educational programs. Simpson Thacher has participated in the Legal Outreach program since 1997. This year, the students handled a mock trademark and trade dress infringement case that required them to take part in negotiations, conduct depositions, write client memos and have a hearing before a judge.
More than 50 summer associates and attorneys served as mentors, team leaders, and witnesses for the depositions, negotiations and the hearing. The program was organized by associates Whytne Brooks, Linton Mann III and Alyssa Watzman, and paralegal Stephanie Crosskey.
