On July 20, Simpson Thacher’s New York office hosted 21 eighth-grade students from Legal Outreach’s Pathways to Achievement and Community Transformation (PACT) Summer Law Institute. Legal Outreach is a non-profit organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal and educational programs. The day’s program included lunch, a tour of the firm, and coaching by Simpson attorneys on techniques for direct examination, cross examination and opening and closing arguments. The students also participated in a mini-mock trial in which they practiced these techniques. Ten attorneys and staff members participated in the visit, which was organized by Assistant Sabrina Carreras and Litigation associates Omari Mason and Whytne Brooks. Litigation partner Bill Russell gave closing remarks to the students. Bill Russell and Litigation associate Juan Arteaga serve on Legal Outreach’s Advisory Board.
