Simpson Thacher received the Award for Excellence in Insurance, conferred by Chambers & Partners at its annual U.S.-based awards ceremony held on June 7, 2012 in New York City.  This marks the second time the Firm’s Insurance Practice has received this Award. The Award recognized in particular the Firm's work on behalf of insurers and reinsurers.  Chambers & Partners describe Simpson Thacher 's Insurance Practice as, "the gold standard for representing insurance companies across the USA in bet-the-company cases." Chambers & Partners has ranked the Firm’s Insurance Practice “Band One” for Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer for New York since 2006 and for Nationwide since 2007. Partners Barry Ostrager and Mary Kay Vyskocil have also been consistently ranked “Band One” in Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer (Nationwide and New York) and Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Reinsurance categories. Partner Andrew Amer also ranks in Chambers as “Band Two” for Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer for New York. 

In addition, the firm's Energy and Infrastructure Practice was a finalist for the Award for Excellence in Energy Projects: Power.
