Exempt Organizations Partner Victoria B. Bjorklund is quoted in New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman's announcement of a bold plan to reform and revitalize New York's nonprofit sector.  The plan is responsive to the recommendations of the Attorney General's Leadership Committee for Nonprofit Revitalization, of which Ms. Bjorklund is a member.   The plan includes legislation to eliminate outdated and costly burdens on nonprofits, strengthen oversight and accountability, and reaffirm the Attorney General’s office’s commitment to policing fraud and abuse. In the announcement, Ms. Bjorklund said, “Compliance procedures for nonprofits can be rigorous without being onerous. We are confident that this committee has provided sound recommendations that will increase confidence in the nonprofit sector while reducing red tape.”

The Leadership Committee for Nonprofit Revitalization is composed of 32 leaders in the nonprofit sector from across New York State. Ms. Bjorklund served as co-chair of the Modernizing and Strengthening Nonprofit Laws Subcommittee. The full report can be accessed here.
