Hank Gutman, a Simpson Thacher litigation partner and Chair of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, was named Chair of the Complex Litigation Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers, at the College’s Annual Meeting held in La Quinta, California. Hank was elected a Fellow of the College in 2006 and, in addition to his service on the Complex Litigation Committee, is also a member of its State Committee for Downstate New York.
Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.
The Complex Litigation Committee has, in recent years, focused much of its effort in the Intellectual Property field, where, among other things, the Committee has authored and published in conjunction with the Federal Judicial Center and BNA the book “Anatomy of a Patent Case”, which is distributed to all Federal District Judges.
