Simpson Thacher Chairman Dick Beattie has been named by The American Lawyer as one of the 2011 Lifetime Achievers. The list, which includes only eight individuals this year, honors attorneys with outstanding private sector success and a devotion to public service. Mr. Beattie is credited as “one of the fathers of the leveraged buyout,” advising KKR and paving the way for the largest and most innovative private equity transactions beginning in the early 1970’s. He is also lauded for his advice to many corporate boards of directors regarding governance and other issues. Mr. Beattie, who served in the Carter Administration, is noted for being the founder of New Visions for Public Schools, the largest public education reform effort in the country.
