Earlier this month, United States Immigration Judge Terry A. Bain granted our client’s application for cancellation of removal after an evidentiary hearing. Our client L.P. was born in the Dominican Republic but moved to the United States as a child and has resided here for the last twenty-one years. She has four U.S.-born children and all her immediate family members live in the United States. The government commenced removal proceedings against her because of a single criminal conviction that occurred twelve years ago when her former boyfriend, without her knowledge, hid some drugs in her apartment after realizing he was under police surveillance. The Firm was co-counsel on this matter with The Legal Aid Society of New York. The STB team included Paul Gluckow, Juan Arteaga, Joan Flaherty, and Alora Thomas. Pro Bono Coordinator, Oscar Orellana, also provided valuable assistance.
