Simpson Thacher Obtains Waiver of Removal for Pro Bono Client Facing Deportation to Russia

10.29.10

On October 28, 2010, the Immigration Court in New York granted a petition for waiver of removal to a long-term legal permanent resident of the U.S. who was facing deportation based on a 20 year-old conviction. Our client came to the United States when he was 14 years old, and has legally resided here for more than 30 years. If deported, he would have been separated from his 13 year-old special needs son, a U.S. citizen who would have remained behind. Simpson Thacher served as co-counsel in this matter with The Legal Aid Society.

The Simpson Thacher team consisted of Chantale Fiebig, Dan Shin, and Stephanie Mash, and was overseen by Paul Gluckow.
