Simpson Thacher Wins Asylum for Unaccompanied Child

09.07.10

Simpson Thacher recently achieved a victory on behalf of an unaccompanied child seeking asylum in the United States.  The Firm represented Mr. C, who was born in the Ivory Coast, where he and his family were subject to persecution on account of race, religion, membership in a particular social group and political opinion.  After escaping initially to Mali and eventually to the United States, Mr. C was brought to KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), with whom Simpson Thacher partnered to provide him with pro bono representation.

The Simpson Thacher team consisted of Kelly Jin, Jackie Kahng, Maina Tilton and Rachel Weiss and former associate Bernard-Olivier Becker, with supervision from Vanessa Bressler and valuable assistance from paralegal Daniel Katt.
