On June 22, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit issued an opinion unanimously vacating a ruling of the Board of Immigration Appeals which had denied the petition for asylum of the Firm’s pro bono client JPS, a Colombian citizen who has been persecuted because of his sexual orientation by FARC, a notorious Colombian narco-terrorist organization. The Simpson Thacher team consisted of litigation associate Jacob Press and former associate Katherine Burghardt, supervised by litigation partner Joseph M. McLaughlin.
