Simpson Thacher Transactions Win IFLR Americas Awards

The Firm was recently awarded the Private Equity Deal of the Year and the Restructuring of the Year at the International Financial Law Review Americas Awards dinner on March 25, 2010.  

The Firm’s representation of private equity firms Centerbridge Partners, The Carlyle Group and The Blackstone Group, three of the four leading private equity investors in a newly chartered federal savings bank which acquired the banking operations of BankUnited from the FDIC, won the Private Equity Deal of the Year.  The deal was commended for the creation of new legal framework allowing investor groups to successfully bid on failing banks for the first time.  The team was led by Wilson Neely, Caroline Gottschalk, Lee Meyerson and Maripat Alpuche.  To read more about this transaction, please click here

The Firm’s representation of J.P. Morgan as agent under CIT Group’s credit facilities in connection with its restructuring won Restructuring of the Year.  At filing, the company listed $71 billion in assets and $64.9 billion in debt.  IFLR declared it the largest pre-packaged bankruptcy solicitation ever.  The CIT Group team was led by Mark Thompson and Frank Huck.
