On October 22, Simpson Thacher was awarded one of the Financial Times 2009 Innovative Lawyers awards for its work with the U.S. Department of the Treasury on structuring and implementing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). The Firm was named the winner for innovative legal work relating to the "U.S. Financial Crisis and Downturn 2009" with the highest overall points awarded in that category based on the originality and impact of the work. The award recognizes the Firm's work on behalf of the U.S. government "to design and implement the key intervention to restore liquidity into the financial system."

Simpson Thacher's team on the TARP engagement was led by Lee Meyerson, who was recognized and quoted in the FT's 2009 special report on Innovative Lawyers.
