10.20.09

Simpson Thacher is representing Elpida Memory, Inc. in a recently filed patent suit. Elpida is Japan’s leading manufacturer of DRAM, the most common form of computer memory, and, with billions of dollars of annual sales, is the third-largest DRAM company worldwide. In the suit, On Semiconductor, a Phoenix-based manufacturer of certain types of computer memory, accuses Elpida’s industry-leading technology of infringing four separate patents. The case is before Judge Leonard Davis in Tyler, Texas. There has been a recent trend by plaintiffs to bring patent cases in the Eastern District of Texas and Simpson Thacher has handled the defense for clients in a number of these cases, including matters for Intel, Cisco, 3Com and others.

The Simpson Thacher team includes George Newcombe, Jeff Ostrow, Buzz Frahn, Patrick King, Jason Bussey, Brian McCloskey, Chad Pehrson, and Arka Chatterjee.
