Simpson Thacher represented the underwriters, led by Citigroup Global Markets Inc. and J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., in the issuance of $500 million of 5.625% Senior Notes due 2019 by Discovery Communications, LLC on August 19, 2009. The notes are fully and unconditionally guaranteed on an unsecured senior basis by Discovery Communications, Inc., the parent company of the issuer. Discovery will use the net proceeds to repay approximately $428 million of its existing term loan.

Discovery is a leading global media and entertainment company that provides programming all over the U.S. and across 170 other countries, with over 100 television networks offering customized programming in 35 languages. Popular channels owned by Discovery include the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and Science Channel.
