06.02.09

On June 2, 2009, Simpson Thacher corporate partner Marissa Wesely spoke at the Second Annual Panel on Women and Leadership sponsored by the New York City Bar Association's Committee on Women in the Profession. This year's panel discussion: "Overcoming Gender Stereotypes to Achieve Leadership Success" was introduced by New York City Bar Association president, Patricia Hynes, and moderated by Bettina Plevan of Proskauer Rose LLP, a former president of the Bar Association and of the Federal Bar Council. Ms. Wesely and her co-panelists, Dale Cendali, Partner, Kirkland & Ellis LLP; Fran Bermanzohn, Deputy General Counsel, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.; and Lai Sun Yee, Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Studies Distinguished Fellow, and former Assistant Deputy Secretary for Homeland Security for New York State, drew on their experience in the public and private sectors to address how women can and do employ a variety of leadership styles and techniques to overcome subconscious stereotyping, gender-based perceptions and other challenges to their leadership success.
