Simpson Thacher recently achieved a victory on behalf of a Kenyan victim of domestic violence seeking asylum in the United States. The Firm represented Ms. M , a mother of seven, seeking asylum based on her fear of returning to Kenya, where she was a victim of domestic violence which commenced after her refusal to undergo female genital mutilation. The Firm provided pro bono representation to Ms. M in partnership with Sanctuary for Families, a non-profit organization in New York State dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims and their children.
