Simpson Thacher Successfully Represents Travelers in a Three-Month Long Trial in Suit Brought by Pfizer Subsidiary, Warner-Lambert

On the last day of testimony in a three-month long bench trial involving testimony from more than 20 live witnesses, the firm's client, Travelers, concluded a settlement with Pfizer subsidiary, Warner-Lambert, and American Optical, insureds under policies issued by certain Travelers companies. The trial, which took place in New Jersey state court in Union County, New Jersey, involved claims of coverage for thousands of asbestos and silica claims asserted against American Optical under hundreds of policies issued over a period of more than forty years. The Simpson Thacher trial team, led by David Woll and Mary Beth Forshaw, served as lead counsel for the defendants during the trial, which were comprised of more than two dozen other insurers.
