On December 17, 2008, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana dismissed the Louisiana Attorney General's antitrust claims against the Firm's client, The Standard Fire Insurance Company, a subsidiary of The Travelers Companies. The Attorney General brought the action in Louisiana state court against certain insurers and manufacturers of computer software alleging an illegal antitrust conspiracy related to the adjustment of property damage claims after Hurricane Katrina. The Firm removed the case to federal court under the Class Action Fairness Act. After the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit affirmed federal jurisdiction, the district judge granted Standard Fire's motion to dismiss with prejudice.
The team representing Travelers against the Attorney General's and similar post-Katrina antitrust allegations in Louisiana includes Bryce Friedman, Michael Garvey, John Briody, Amiad Kushner, Natalie Shimmel Drucker, Jodie Sopher, Andrew Dempster and Rosemarie Artale.
