Simpson Thacher litigation partner Jack Kerr and litigation associates Janet Whittaker, Julissa Reynoso and Emma Lindsay made presentations to over one hundred government officials and private practitioners at a conference on investment arbitration organized by the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Santo Domingo on September 12. The Simpson Thacher litigators addressed several important topics including the Central American-United States-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) and recognition and enforcement of international arbitration awards. Simpson Thacher also addressed the firm's representation of the Dominican Republic in the first case ever to be brought against the Republic under CAFTA-DR. The firm's participation in the conference was underwritten by USAID.
While in Santo Domingo, Jack, Janet, Julissa and Emma also discussed international arbitration with audiences of law students at the Universidad Iberoamericana and judges at the Escuela Nacional de la Judicatura.
