Simpson Thacher represented The Carlyle Group in the establishment of Carlyle Strategic Partners II, L.P. The fund, with $1.35 billion in equity capital commitments, is the successor to Carlyle's inaugural distressed and corporate opportunities fund, and seeks to invest primarily in operationally sound but financially distressed companies in both control-oriented investments and in situations where Carlyle believes an investment opportunity is compelling without regard to influence or control.
