Bloomberg recently ranked Simpson Thacher #1 for announced Private Global Equity deals for 2007. The Firm advised on more than 50 private equity deals with an aggregate value of over $187 billion. At year end, STB had advised the acquirors on the five largest buyouts ever completed, which included two deals announced and closed in 2007-- KKR and TPG's $45 billion acquisition of TXU Corporation (the largest buyout ever consummated) and KKR's $29.2 billion acquisition of First Data Corporation. Other 2007 deals included Simpson Thacher's representation of The Blackstone Group in its $26 billion acquisition of Hilton Hotels Corp., the seventh largest buyout ever completed and the second largest real estate buyout of all time behind the $39 billion acquisition of Equity Office Properties Trust which closed in 2007 where the Firm also represented Blackstone. Simpson Thacher also represented KKR and Stefano Pessina in their £10.6 billion ($21.2 billion) acquisition of Alliance Boots plc, the largest buyout ever completed in Europe.
