On December 17, 2007, litigation associate Stephanie Shemin spoke about Legal Outreach, Inc. at the New York County Lawyers' Association Committee on Law Related Education, which is chaired by the Honorable Richard Price of New York Supreme Court. Every summer, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett hosts eight tenth-grade interns from Legal Outreach, a non-profit organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal and educational programs. During their internship at the Firm, the students handle a mock trademark and trade dress infringement case that requires them to take part in negotiations, conduct deposition, write client memos and ultimately have a hearing before a judge. Other components include Westlaw training and learning about Simpson's various practice areas. This past summer, sixteen summer associates and eighteen associates served as mentors, team leaders, and witnesses for the depositions and hearing.
