Simpson Thacher Presents Major Changes in US IP Law to Overflow Audiences in Korea and Taiwan

11.01.07

George Newcombe, Jeff Ostrow and Buzz Frahn recently presented seminars to hundreds of attendees in Korea and Taiwan. The Simpson Thacher team, all partners in the Firm’s Palo Alto office, were invited as the only US law firm to address attendees at the Korean Electronics Show, one of the largest trade shows in Asia. Over 125 representatives of leading Korean electronics companies attended, and the seminar was coordinated with the efforts of Kim & Chang, the largest law firm in Korea and well-known for its IP expertise. In Taiwan, there was an overflow crowd of 175 attendees from prominent Taiwanese companies for the seminar hosted by the Tze-Chiang Foundation of Science and Technology and the largest Taiwanese law firm, Lee & Li, noted IP law experts. The seminars covered the revolutionary changes in US IP law over the last 18 months, with major decisions from the Supreme Court, Federal Circuit and potential patent reform in Congress. These events in Korea and Taiwan highlight both the Firm’s deep presence in Asia, including its recent opening in Beijing, and its expertise in IP litigation.
