Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg recently hosted a breakfast at Gracie Mansion where he recognized top law firms in New York City for their participation in the Public Service Program, a unique initiative that grew out of the strong interest expressed by law firms that aided the New York City Law Department after the September 11, 2001 tragedy. The Program functions as a public/private enterprise, where law firms volunteer attorney time and resources to the Law Department, assisting it in managing its heavy caseload. Corporation Counsel Michael A. Cardozo described this program as a "win-win" for everyone in that "private firm lawyers gain highly prized trial and deposition experience -- and give to a worthwhile cause -- while the Law Department gains much needed resources." The Mayor offered thanks to representatives from top law firms who, in the last year alone, have donated an estimated $10 million in legal services and resources to New York City as part of the Program. Roy Reardon and Bill Russell were recognized on behalf of the Firm along with attorneys from over 20 other New York City law firms.
