From July 23-26, 2007, Simpson Thacher hosted eight tenth-grade interns from Legal Outreach, a non-profit organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities to compete at high levels by using intensive legal and educational programs. During their internship at the Firm, the students handled a mock trademark and trade dress infringement case that required them to take part in negotiations, conduct depositions, write client memos and ultimately have a hearing before a judge. Other components included Westlaw training and learning about Simpson's various practice areas. Sixteen summer associates and eighteen associates served as mentors, team leaders, and witnesses for the depositions and hearing. The program was organized by associates Stephanie Shemin and Carlos Lopez and paralegal Joana Da Silva.
