Simpson Thacher was named "Law Firm of the Year" for US - New York, a distinction it also earned in 2006, in the Who’s Who Legal Awards, published by Law Business Research. These awards are given to the outstanding firms in 48 countries and five US states. The publication stated, "Simpson Thacher stood out as the top firm in New York - the depth of talent from this office across a range of practice areas in undeniably impressive, and puts the firm at the head of the local market."  

The Firm has also been named "Global Private Funds Law Firm of the Year 2007" in that publication. This is the third consecutive time the Firm has been recognized for this award, having received it every year since its inception in 2005. Corporate Partner Thomas Bell received the "Private Funds Lawyer of the Year Award" for the second year, and Michael Wolitzer was also featured among the most highly regarded individuals in the private funds research.

Who’s Who Legal used the thousands of nominations it has received from clients and private practice professionals to pick out the pre-eminent lawyer and firm in 27 practice areas. In all, forty seven Simpson Thacher partners across four countries and two US states were also recognized in the 2007 Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2007. The winners were formally announced in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2007, a compendium edition of all the individual Who’s Who Legal publications which was released in April.
