Simpson Thacher won two awards at the Asian Legal Business China Law Awards ceremony held in Shanghai, China on April 27th. The Firm was honored with two awards: "The China Deal of the Year" and "M&A Deal of the Year" for its representation of China Life Insurance Company/Citigroup Consortium in connection with its $3.1 billion acquisition of Guangdong Development Bank Co., Ltd.

Simpson Thacher was also nominated in three other categories: "Debt Market Deal of the Year" for the Golden State CB issue deal; "M&A Deal of the Year" for its representation of Best Buy in its acquisition of a majority interest in Jiangsu Five Star, China's fourth largest appliance and consumer electronics retailer; and "M&A Deal of Year" for its representation of Focus Media in its $325 million acquisition of Target Media. In addition, Simpson Thacher China partner, Leiming Chen, was nominated for "International Dealmaker of the Year."

The 2007 ALB China Law Awards recognize the excellence of China's leading law firms as well as the top deals and dealmakers of 2006. Organized annually by the Asia-Pacific magazine for legal professionals, the ALB Law Awards recognizes and promotes outstanding professional achievement and some of the best legal work of the year throughout China.
