Asian-Counsel recently awarded Simpson Thacher its “Deal of the Year 2006” in recognition of the Lotte Shopping Co. Ltd. IPO. Simpson Thacher represented the initial purchasers on this deal, led by Goldman Sachs International and Nomura Securities, in the largest IPO ever by a Korean company, including one of the top ten largest IPOs ever from Asia. The issuer, Lotte Shopping, a leading retail company in Korea, operates the largest department store chain and the third largest discount store chain in Korea.

The securities were listed for trading on both the London Stock Exchange and the Stock Market Division of the Korea Exchange. Simpson Thacher is one of the few firms involved in Korea's landmark transactions, including Kumho Tire in Korea's first London-Korea dual listing IPO; and LG.Philips LCD in Korea's first NYSE-Korea dual listing IPO. The "Deal of the Year" award from Asian-Counsel further recognizes Simpson Thacher leadership position as a premiere law firm in Korea and elsewhere in Asia.

The Simpson Thacher team for the Lotte deal included Jin Hyuk Park, Anthony Choi, Kristina Kang and Changsu Oh in Hong Kong, and Bryan Yoon, Tamika Cushenberry (tax), Mark Lab (blue sky) and Jeanne Annarumma (ERISA) in New York.
