10.04.06

Simpson Thacher represented Centerbridge Partners, L.P., the new private equity firm founded by Mark Gallogly, former head of private equity at Blackstone, and Jeffrey Aronson, former head of distressed investing at Angelo Gordon, in the establishment of Centerbridge Capital Partners, L.P., which, with $3 billion of third-party capital commitments, is considered to be the largest "first time" private equity fund ever formed. The fund will pursue a dual strategy of pursuing both buyout investments as well as distressed debt investing.

The Simpson Thacher team representing Centerbridge included Michael Wolitzer, Jonathan Karen, Maina Tilton, Jennifer Chien and Christine Putek (corporate); Brian Robbins, Jeanne Annarumma and Jamin Koslowe (ERISA); John Hart (tax); Mark Lab and Sean Cotton (blue sky); and paralegals Dorothy Hong, Scott Hopson, and Kate White.
