Simpson Thacher pro bono client Selena Blake was featured in The New York Times (December 14, 2005) regarding her forthcoming documentary on the Queensbridge housing projects in Long Island City. Ms. Blake, who grew up in Queensbridge, intended the film to serve as an unmitigated look at the dangers and the oft-overlooked benefits of life in the projects.
Ms. Blake personally financed the making of the documentary, which consists of interviews with current and former residents, some of which are gang members, and others who have become more successful, such as Supreme Court Justice Carol Edmead and pro basketball star Ron Artest. Simpson Thacher associate Mindy Lok performed pro bono trademark work for Ms. Blake in connection with this documentary.
