Goldman Sachs Announces US $550 Million Equity Investment in Hana Bank

The Firm is representing the private equity arm of Goldman Sachs in its approximately U.S.$550 million equity investment in Hana Bank. The Korean commercial bank is the country's fourth largest lender and the transaction represents Goldman's largest equity investment in Asia outside of China. The transaction was announced on October 3, 2005 and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year. The investment will be made by GS Capital Partners V and related funds in the form of common stock of the financial holding company to be established by Hana Bank later this year.
