On August 2, 2005, the Honorable John J. McDonald of the Michigan Circuit Court, County of Oakland denied a summary disposition motion filed by General Motors Corporation ("General Motors") against the Firm's client, Royal Indemnity Company ("Royal") . In its motion, General Motors sought to require Royal Indemnity to pay defense costs arising from General Motors' past, present, and future asbestos-related claims. The Court agreed with Royal Indemnity that substantial issues of fact regarding the existence of coverage precluded the granting of summary disposition. The Simpson Thacher team consists of Mary Kay Vyskocil, Mary Beth Forshaw, who argued against the motion for Royal Indemnity, David LaRocca, Chris Lucht, Sarah Davis, and paralegal Rosemarie Artale.
