Simpson Thacher corporate partners William B. Brentani and Todd Crider are speaking at a conference in São Paulo, Brazil entitled "Accessing the Brazilian and U.S. Capital Markets." The event, to be held on June 16, 2005 is sponsored in conjunction with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados, one of the largest law firms in Brazil, and the American Chamber of Commerce of São Paulo. The conference examined the legal, business and accounting issues that arise in cross-border capital markets transactions in the context of the recent upsurge in capital markets activity in Brazil. The firm has been involved in a variety of equity and debt transactions in Brazil, including recent transactions involving: Braskem, a petrochemical producer; DASA, a medical diagnostic services company; CPFL Energia, an electricity distribution, generation and trading company; Vivo, a cellular telecommunications provider; Natura, a cosmetics and personal care products company; and others.
