International Financial Law Review recently reported that Simpson Thacher was #2 among all law firms in the European high yield bond market, with 22 offerings in 2004 aggregating over $8 billion in principal amount. IFLR stated that an unprecedented $27.1 billion in new European high yield bonds were issued in 2004, representing an $8.1 billion increase from 2003 and more than four times the amount issued in 2002. "Our strong relationships with both investment banks and private equity firms, and our long record of involvement in leveraged finance, enabled us to take advantage of the enormous growth in this market," said Walt Looney, managing partner of Simpson Thacher's London office.
