Corporate Associate Yafit Cohn moderated a panel titled “Wall Street: Shareholders’ Views” at The Conference Board’s October 20th event, “Varied Views on Corporate Political Spending From Main Street to Wall Street & In Between.” The panel explored, among other things, investors’ views on disclosure of corporate political spending, shareholder proposals requesting disclosure of political contributions and/or lobbying payments and policies, shareholder engagement with public companies on the issue and the status of the SEC’s rulemaking. The panelists included Shelley Alpern, director of social research and shareholder advocacy at Clean Yield Asset Management; Lisa Gilbert, director at Public Citizen’s Congress Watch; and John Keenan, corporate governance analyst and the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees.
