John Fitzgerald is Counsel in the Firm’s Registered Funds Practice, where he advises sponsors, asset managers and retail fund clients on the formation, structuring and operation of registered investments funds across a broad range of strategies.
With over 20 years of experience in the asset management industry, John has accumulated extensive knowledge and insight, having regularly advised on U.S. retail funds, SMA programs and retail distribution efforts. He represents open and closed-end mutual funds, interval funds, tender offer funds, business development companies and ETFs.
Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, John was Deputy General Counsel of a leading investment management firm and Deputy Head of U.S. Funds Legal, Executive Director, and Assistant General Counsel at a large international asset management firm. John was also previously in private practice at large international law firms.
John received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
