Todd Crider Co-Authors Chapter in Global Pro Bono on Role of Pro Bono Clearinghouses in Latin America and Europe

06.09.22

Todd Crider, Head of the Firm’s Latin America Practice, co-authored a chapter in Global Pro Bono: Causes, Context, and Contestation titled, “Narrowing the Justice Gap: Clearinghouses for Spain.” The chapter discusses the role pro bono clearinghouses could play in promoting access to justice by facilitating the creation of an efficient pro bono “ecosystem” in Spain, as well as provides examples of other clearinghouses in Latin America and Europe. It also examines publicly-subsidized legal aid and the challenges surrounding pro bono institutionalization in Spain, as well as investigates how pro bono can supplement and strengthen the state legal aid system, with a case study looking at asylum applicants that points to both the need and promise of pro bono in Spain.

Global Pro Bono: Causes, Context, and Contestation, published by Cambridge University Press, explores the spread of pro bono access across five continents and provides a comparative analysis of pro bono’s growing role in the access to justice movement.
