Sandy Qusba, Head of Simpson Thacher’s Restructuring Practice, and Adam Gallagher, Head of the Firm’s London-based Restructuring team, were featured in a Global Restructuring Review (GRR) Heads-Up Q&A, which highlights leaders of restructuring practices. The piece explored Sandy’s and Adam’s career paths and qualities they think top-notch restructuring lawyers embody, as well as the growth of the Firm’s Restructuring practice, it’s work for both company/sponsor-side and lender-side clients and its expansion in London. They also discussed trends in the restructuring space, including the growth of liability management transactions.
When speaking to the strength of the Firm’s platform, Sandy explained, “A successful restructuring practice should be involved in all parts of the capital structure, and that's our goal. For example, a successful restructuring practice should be able to address Wall Street banks, hedge funds, sponsors, companies and issuers. We're trying to be go-to lawyers for all parts of the capital structure. Whoever calls us first, we will be there.”
Adam emphasized the importance of a strong team noting, “It's about the team. We are very focused on each one of our team members being visible to the market, accessing the market, seeing the clients and building their own client rapport. We want to be known as having strength-in-depth and have each of the team members be people we have demonstrated trust in.”
