On January 15, 2021, Chief Judge Jordan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi granted compassionate release to an incarcerated individual suffering from significant spinal issues. The Court found the individual’s spinal condition constituted an extraordinary and compelling reason warranting a reduction in his term of imprisonment.
Simpson Thacher represented the incarcerated individual as co-counsel with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Mississippi. The Simpson Thacher team included Sara Y. Razi, Sydney Wright-Schaner, Nihara K. Choudhri and former colleague M. Moore.
