John Ericson Quoted in The American Lawyer on Voter Concerns During the Election

11.04.20

Partner John Ericson was quoted in The American Lawyer in an article titled, “Big Law Volunteers: Election Day Problems 'Magnified' by COVID.” The article outlined a number of concerns—many exacerbated by the pandemic—that voters have raised while voting in person around the country. According to attorney volunteers with the non-partisan Election Protection program run by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, complaints about mask wearing and social distancing have been appended to the relatively typical concerns about voting equipment breakdowns, polling place and registration confusion. “We’ve gotten a number of calls from people wanting to make sure they’re correctly registered; if they’re voting in the right place,” John said. “And people do seem to be particularly interested in that, given the stakes of the election.”

The article further noted that the Firm is expected to have volunteered “well over” 2,000 hours to the Election Protection program through the call centers the Firm operates in collaboration with the Lawyers’ Committee by the end of this election cycle.
