Partner Karen Hsu Kelley was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article titled, “CFOs Could Look to Change Disclosure Practices Following Volkswagen Scandal.” The article examines whether there are lessons U.S. finance chiefs could learn from the ongoing Volkswagen AG emissions-cheating scandal about the right time to disclose critical information. Karen notes that while she sees the Volkswagen case as a one-off example of pervasive risk, companies do need to be mindful about their approach to risk disclosures, which may need to change over time. “Operational risk may need to be more of a focus and critical matters should be discussed at a risk or audit committee meeting if they are not already,” she says.
