Buzz Frahn and Jeff Ostrow Lead the Advanced IP Session at the SVAGC All Hands Meeting

10.25.17

Litigation Partners Buzz Frahn and Jeff Ostrow led a packed session at the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel (SVAGC) All Hands Meeting, which brought together 600 CLOs, GCs and their legal teams from more than 210 technology and life sciences companies who convened on October 17 and 18 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Jeff and Buzz put together a panel of senior in-house counsel, including Rochael Adranly, general counsel and legal design lead for the international design firm IDEO, which was responsible for Apple’s first manufacturable mouse; Adam Dolinko, general counsel for innovative consumer products company Essential, who previously served as GC and senior executive at CSR and Qualcomm; and Chris Nalevanko, associate general counsel and head of IP strategy for Zoox, a transformative and well-funded autonomous driving start-up.

The highly interactive session, which attracted a standing-room-only audience, focused on where IP litigation is heading after years of reform at the hands of courts and Congress. The panel addressed some of the key issues general counsels and their teams should be looking for, not only in the context of potential litigation, but also licensing, portfolio valuation, deal-making and beyond. Panelists discussed the implications of IP law reform (or lack thereof) to the lifeblood of Silicon Valley technology and life sciences companies.

On the evening prior to the conference, a select group of 25 Simpson Thacher clients, alumni and colleagues joined Jeff, Buzz and other Palo Alto partners and counsel for dinner and discussion.
