Simpson Thacher is representing Celulosa Arauco y Constitución S.A. in connection with its acquisition of 50% of Tableros de Fibras S.A., a subsidiary of Portuguese conglomerate Sonae Indústria, SGPS, S.A., a leading wood panel manufacturer in Europe and South Africa. Celulosa Arauco’s investment will allow it to share control of the company. The transaction is expected to close in the first semester of 2016.
Headquartered in Chile, Celulosa Arauco is one of the largest forestry enterprises in the world in terms of surface area and plantation yield and the production of market kraft woodpulp, sawn timber and wood panels. This investment will rank Celulosa Arauco as the second largest producer in the wood panel global ranking.
