Simpson Thacher corporate partner Alan M. Klein and litigation partner Mary Kay Vyskocil have been recognized by Law360 in its 2012 MVP awards. Mr. Klein was recognized as a leader in M&A and Ms. Vyskocil was recognized as a leader in insurance.
Mr. Klein is acknowledged for closing, within one year, several of the market’s most significant M&A deals with a combined transaction value of more than $18 billion. The publication highlighted his involvement in Best Buy's proposed take private transaction valued at $8 billion, Tyco's separation into three companies, as well as his representation of Microsoft in its $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype and its $300 million investment in a new entity which will own the NOOK and college businesses of Barnes & Noble, Inc. Ms. Vyskocil is honored for a number of major litigation victories within the last year, including successfully fending off appellate challenges to judgments in high-stakes insurance and reinsurance disputes. In March 2012, she successfully obtained appellate affirmation of significant victories in an antitrust dispute regarding Equitas Ltd. The publication also noted that Ms. Vyskocil secured confirmation of a decision granting summary judgment to a Travelers Co. Inc. affiliate in the amount of $420 million from Munich Reinsurance America Inc. and its fellow reinsurers to cover numerous asbestos personal injury claims against Western MacArthur Co. and its predecessor.
