ChemChina and Syngenta Receive CFIUS Clearance

China National Chemical Corp., known as ChemChina, and Swiss agrochemical firm Syngenta AG announced today that they have received clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for ChemChina’s proposed $43 billion acquisition of Syngenta, which represents the largest foreign acquisition by a Chinese company. Simpson Thacher represented ChemChina in obtaining CFIUS approval. Washington, D.C. Managing Partner Peter Thomas along with David Shogren, Elliot Weingarten and Andy Hasty led Simpson Thacher’s CFIUS team and worked closely with Beijing colleagues Shaolin Luo, Yang Wang and Amy Liu, New York M&A colleague Alan Klein and Houston M&A colleague Christopher May to secure the clearance.
