Simpson Thacher was recognized as the “TMT Firm of the Year” at the Asia Legal Awards 2018 for its representation of clients across the Asia-Pacific region on a variety of complex transactions in the technology, media and telecommunications space in 2017. The Asia Legal Awards are an annual awards series hosted by The Asian Lawyer in conjunction with China Law & Practice, The American Lawyer and Legal Week.

The Firm was also awarded “M&A Deal of the Year” (South Asia) for its representation of KKR, Dr. Ravi Penmetsa and Gland Pharma in the acquisition by Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical of a 74% stake in Gland Pharma for US$1.1 billion, which represented the largest takeover of an Indian company by a Chinese buyer; and “Securities Deal of the Year” (Debt) for its representation of Alibaba Group Holding Limited in its offering of US$7 billion aggregate principal amount of investment grade notes, which was the biggest offshore U.S. dollar-bond offering in Asia in 2017.

The Firm was also a finalist in four other categories, including “M&A Firm of the Year,” “M&A Deal of the Year: North Asia,” “Finance Deal of the Year: Acquisition” and “Securities Deal of the Year: Equity.” In addition, Corporate Partners Chris Lin and Shaolin Luo were finalists in the “Securities Lawyer of the Year” and “M&A Lawyer of the Year” categories, respectively.
